During our 15-year history, we have investigated numerous energy opportunities that had the potential to be “game-changers” for the region, as well as nationally. It is our opinion after studying the SMR potential over the past two years, that the development of advanced SMR technology in New Brunswick has as much potential as any we have studied in the past. The opportunity is significant for New Brunswick, the Maritime region, and has pan-Canadian positive impacts.
The Atlantica Centre for Energy has contributed a chapter as part of the federal SMR Action Plan. Read the full text.
The Federal Minister of Natural Resources, Seamus O’Regan, refers to the goal of “net zero” carbon emissions by 2050 as Canada’s “moonshot”. O'Regan says the Federal government is looking at all potential solutions to reduce carbon emissions, including carbon capture, storage, hydrogen, geothermal and small modular nuclear reactors as clean sources of energy. It has become clear to achieve the necessary reductions in carbon emissions nuclear must be part of our energy mix.
