New Brunswick's Large-Scale Wind Energy Initiative

In May 2008 the Province of New Brunswick announced an aggressive wind strategy that would see up to 4500MW of wind energy produced in the province by 2025. This exciting opportunity could more than double the province’s current electrical generating capacity and would contribute to the further diversification of the region’s energy portfolio. An investment into renewable energy of such magnitude would create both environmental and economic benefits for the region, particularly the opportunity to export this safe, environmentally-friendly energy surplus to other regions throughout the international northeast. The project would by far surpass the province’s goal to have 10 percent of its energy come from renewable sources by 2016. This target is already on track to be met, helped significantly by the 400MW of wind generation capacity expected to be completed in the province by 2010.
