FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 18, 2022

Saint John, NB – The Atlantica Centre for Energy announced today that Jonathan Alward has joined the Centre as its new Vice-President, Policy.

“We are excited to welcome Jonathan home to New Brunswick for this new role,” said Stephen MacMackin, Chair of the Atlantica Centre for Energy. “He brings a wealth of knowledge developing and advocating for strong policy leadership that will further our efforts on energy-related issues.”

Atlantica’s mission to increase energy literacy for community stakeholders and leaders requires a strong understanding of the policy and regulatory environment related to energy.

With a decade of experience working with multiple levels of government, and as a policy and economic development advocate at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, Alward will help to identify areas where policy can enable opportunities and foster partnerships between the energy sector and the community.

Alward, originally from New Brunswick, is a University of New Brunswick graduate twice over with a BA (Economics) and an MBA. Alward worked for the federal government prior to moving to Manitoba. While at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, Alward spearheaded policy change in Manitoba and Saskatchewan on issues relevant to small- to medium-sized businesses.

“Being away from the province for five years gives me a renewed perspective on the opportunities that lie ahead, especially in the energy sector,” said Alward. “I am excited to join the Atlantica team and put some of my experience to work back home.”

Alward will be focusing on leveraging regional strengths here in Atlantic Canada and identifying areas where efficient policy can help the region achieve maximum benefits from its energy sector.
